E-MAIL MACK'S OWNER

January 31, 2005 (Monday): A working day at home - so the dogs had lots of company. Called the dental vet to make an appointment but Mack can't be seen until mid-week next week. Ugh. Tried to call the other handler - but there was no answer, voicemail or tape. Dogs were crated while Owner was at the gym and dinner but out most of the rest of the time.

Food: ground mix.

January 30, 2005 (Sunday): Mack out around 3 and 7:30. Owner had a busy day of errands so the dogs had some crate time while Owner was out trying to do all manner of little jobs and his return to the gym. The dogs went for a walk in the afternoon and were, for the most part, pretty well-behaved. Mack's "fang" broke again - leaving a small piece inside the gum - so now it's time to call the dental vet.

Food: ground mix; pumpkin to firm up stool.

January 29, 2005 (Saturday): Mack out at 3 a.m. and 7:15; he's been a real trooper - right out the door, pees and returns. Mack and Molly paced around while Owner started the long process of going through garage crud and sorting and throwing stuff out (Hey, I found the waffle iron!). The dogs had a visit from Mike and Megan today and tried to jump all over them; Mack tried to nibble Megan's toes - but he can't be blamed for that - a lot of people might like to do the same.  Around about 3 o'clock Mack laid on his back for a nap on his Owner's bed. Thankfully, no rain today.

Food: ground mix.

January 28, 2005 (Friday): Rain, rain and more rain. So much for "It never rains in sunny California." Luckily, Mack and Molly got out twice (before and after breakfast) and before the downpour. They spent time crated while Owner was at the gym and will probably be in there a while since the glass guys are supposed to be here in the early afternoon.

- Spent a good deal of time grinding food today; this was done so there would be some "ready-made" food in case Owner can get away for a "last-minute" trip next week. People not used to feeding raw can figure out portions of something ready-made, but it would more than likely be a bigger imposition to ask them to start halving or quartering chickens or some of the other things that go along with feeding raw. Three whole chickens, some gizzards, chicken necks, beef heart and beef liver were included with the mix. Now the food is done for about 2 weeks, considering the whole fish that get fed occasionally.

Molly had visitors from Northern Washington today (potential adopters); Mack was very jealous of all the attention she got and, when he was let of his crate, practically sprang into the laps of everyone in the house.

Food: Breakfast: 1/4 whole chicken; pork neck bone and chicken foot for snacks; ground mix (supra) w/supplements/yogurt for dinner.

If I'm elected, I'll get a Tempur-Pedic(R) for every dog.

Oh, that camera is my torment!

January 27, 2005 (Thursday): Up early with the dogs - tried to get Molly to eliminate but no go, so back to the crate for her. Mack was a good boy today and as a treat he got to accompany his owner to the bank, where the staff just couldn't believe they were looking at the same dog they'd met in October. This time, Mack didn't pee on the bank floor; he did demonstrate "plaatz" and "giblout" on command for the managers, but lately he's using his puppy bark (not his "big dog" bark for giblout). Today was a light work day so Mack got lots of attention in the early afternoon - he's turning into quite a snuggly pup. At night Owner ground up some beef liver, beef heart and chicken necks and Mack got to lick the trays/utensils; in the morning, the three whole chickens that are thawing should be ready to be ground. Weight: 52.6 lbs.

Food: breakfast: ground chicken + supplements; snacks: string cheese (when grinding nails), chicken foot/pork neck bone; lunch: ground chicken, cottage cheese, yogurt, pumpkin; dinner: beef heart/liver, chicken gizzards.

Observations: Mack is getting longer; tooth is getting wigglier. Mack's legs look much darker than his chest. Mack has "butcher shop breath."

January 26, 2005 (Wednesday): Up early, let the dogs out, but it was wet (again) so they were unhappy campers. After being out for a bit they were fed, dried off and left to torment each other (and Owner). Molly was put out for a bit because she's a fussy "pee-er" but that effort didn't work, as a yellow puddle was found in the kitchen (same place as yesterday), and Owner's almost certain it wasn't from Mack (he's a trooper, and will go outside when pushed).

Lots of play time with Mack this morning as there wasn't anything terribly pressing on the early a.m. schedule.

Today Owner filled out Mack's entry form for a show in San Diego in February; the show will be just for experience (not going in with high expectations) since Mack is still in the gangly stage and from lines that grow much more slowly (yay!) than others. This means that, at a show, Mack will likely appear smaller and less-developed than others in his class - but that's just fine. The socialization and general experience should all be good. Now if the handler would call back ....

Both dogs got to walk in the light rain after Owner got home from the gym. Too much time on the machine meant Owner had to limp through the walk - making their "tugs" a little painful - but it was important to get the dogs out of the house/yard. A "down the street" neighbor saw Mack and commented that she couldn't believe he was the same little puppy she saw weeks ago (he's grown!).

In the evening it was apparent that Molly was still being fussy - so it's back to basics - crate until she has to pee - then take her out. Just keep trying 'til it works. Ugh. Mack was easy - out of the crate, right to the yard and "pottied" on command. Then dinner, eliminated again, and he conked out on the bed (after making muddy paw prints).

Food: ground chicken + supplements; pork neck bone (Mack gave up the chicken foot at soon as he saw the pork neck bone).

Observations: That "fang" is getting a little wobbly.

January 25, 2005 (Tuesday): Up early with the pups, usual routine, both dogs bounding about and then coming in for some time on the bed while Owner got to see some shows recorded by Tivo. After that bit of morning work avoidance, Owner had to work on some contracts and conference calls so the dogs werre crated (Mack with a pork neck bone, Molly with a pig's ear).

Food: ground chicken + supplements. Pork neck bone for recreation and to loosen the fang.

January 24, 2005 (Monday): Owner had court today so Mack spent time in the crate with a huge pork neck bone. When his Owner got home, Mack very happily went out to pee, and pee and pee some more. He (and his Owner) were very happy to be reunited, as it is really the time together that makes it worthwhile. Court is only good because it sometimes pays the bills! Mack spent the afternoon bounding about and playing with Molly. He looks so big now. Owner is making plans to show him in San Diego, even if only for the experience.

Food: ground chicken + supplements.

Observations: Mack bounds off the bed and extends front and rear legs, looking like some sort of flying reindeer. It is comical! Food in the refrigerator in the garage is remaining frozen - this is good for Owner, who ordered way too much food for Mack. Mack was hesistant but not nearly as scared as he has been previously when the yard guys used the leaf blower in front of him.

January 23, 2005 (Sunday): Up with Mack at 5 and 7; fed some more whole chicken, which is good to occupy him for an hour or so while his Owner goes back to bed! Gotta love those bones. Mack decided he wasn't a baby today; he lifted his leg for the first time while on a walk. Finally put a new plug on the Bissell Spot Lifter (Mack chewed through the cord when he was younger) so a few spots were cleaned up today - with more to be done in the future. Weight: Approx 50 lbs. (wow!)

Food: Whole chicken (back) a.m.; huge pork neck bone for recreation and to loosen that darn tooth! Bonito for dinner.

Mack's proud Owner with the blue ribbon (and Mack, of course).

January 22, 2005 (Saturday): Mack's first blue ribbon! (Inland Empire Rottweiler Club Puppy Match; Judge: Brigette Shaw). Mack started off snarly in the morning, totally out of character, on the first morning he was to be shown. Go figure. A long ride out to Riverside for the first German-style puppy match of the Inland Empire Rottweiler Club (USRC). Mack took the blue ribbon for his class, but it might have been a little bit of a hollow victory, since he was the only one in his class (4-6 mos. male). One person commented that the judge would not have awarded the ribbon if he didn't have the merit, that she did not have to award a ribbon for the class at all - but it doesn't matter. The judge liked his temperament and a lot about him, the only negatives being that he is a little high in the back and that his coat was a little coarse (comments which have been noted here for quite some time). When it came down to Best Puppy award, Mack was beaten by an older male (with a tail) that was much more developed. When choosing between Mack and the other dog the judge was very kind and said, "For me, today, it is this (other) dog - because for 6 mos. he is very well-developed." She awarded the ribbon and then spent time with Mack twice after judging, saying how much she likes him. The event was a good experience and included a handling class where Mack's owner learned a couple of things. The hosts were also very gracious and, pretty much, a good time was had by all. Brian was the "assistant" helping with all of the junk you have to somehow manage when you go to a show (and that was without bringing a crate) and was a good sport, despite the heat. Thank you to Brian for the help and all the folks at IERC who put the event together.

Handling class: 30 mins. or so with Brigette Shaw (very informative)

Getting Mack's attention using a starfish toy.

Brian with Mack in the shade after judging.

Mack found the bunny toy they were using to get the attention of the other dogs - but he didn't take it home.

(One of the few moments his ears were held nicely.)

Food: 1/4 whole chicken for breakfast, ground food blend including tripe for afternoon meal (first time serving tripe - which was stinky!). The tripe blend was provided by one of the sponsors for the event - Bon Chien, who also contributed BARF as a raffle prize. Thank you! More whole chicken for dinner.

Observations: Couldn't get Mack's "fang" to come out yet.

January 21, 2005 (Friday): The dogs were watched by Brian today; Owner got home shortly after 6 p.m., gave the dogs some attention and let them relax. Everyone was tired. Mack's tooth is loosening but unfortunately looks like it will still be there in the morning, which would be a disqualifying fault in the puppy match, so that might be a no-go for tomorrow.

Food: ground mix (beef, beef heart, supplements); bonito.

January 20, 2005 (Thursday): Up at 3, 5 and 7 with the dogs today. Tried to get a lot of work done but still give them attention, since their Owner was headed off to a meeting in Fresno and would be gone for about 24 hrs. They seemed to be behaving well today, except that their play was incessant, until something happened and Mack let out a very loud cry. Upon inspection, his "doubled" canine had cracked (the puppy canine tooth, to the outside of the adult canine, had cracked). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it will die off or vanish before the weekend, when the German-style puppy match is to be held; this will probably keep Mack out of it.

Food: Ground beef and beef heart for breakfast; pork chops for lunch; ground beef/beef heart/supplements for dinner; chicken foot for snack.

January 19, 2005 (Wednesday): Up at 3 and 7 with the dogs. A busy day of document prep but managed a little quality time with Mack and Molly after a short lunch break - and they seemed to busy themselves with each other, the mud, the passers-by and destroying some of the trees, grass, etc., so they probably didn't notice Owner's unavailability that much.

Working on teaching Mack to refrain from jumping up on people; he's getting more "free" time in the house - hopefully expanding his territory for housetraining purposes.

Food: Bonito for breakfast; ground beef and beef heart for lunch; chicken foot for snack; ground beef/beef heart/supplements at dinner.

Observations: Coat still wavy with cowlicks, upper puppy canine not loosened yet despite emergence of adult canine. He did "sitz" and "plaatz" and "giblout" on command when Mike visited today.

January 18, 2005 (Tuesday): Up with dogs at 3 and a little before 7. Mack was being especially playful this morning (this translates to: no "back to bed" for Owner). He's started that stupid thing young dogs do when they're being trained and aren't really focusing on commands - this is where they go through "a routine" of what they know, hoping one thing or another will do the trick (i.e., plaatzing when you say sitz, barking when you say plaatz). Owner is working from home today - which means the dogs get plenty of attention and Owner gets only a modest amount of work done.

Food: Ground whole chicken for breakfast; bonito for lunch; ground whole chicken.

January 17, 2005 (Monday): A relatively easy day, although the cousins were here and there was an LAX pickup to do for friends. Dogs got some "quality" time, attention and treats. After all the Co-op effort, though, Mack seemed just as happy eating a stick as he was when he ate chicken feet.  Weight: 45.6 lbs. (error?)

Mack's owner spent some time this weekend watching "Dead Like Me," an interesting, dark comedy that used to be on a cable network. Outside the comedy, the message is clear: treasure each day because you don't know how many of them you'll have. The same holds true for the people and experiences in your life - so Mack and Molly got some extra attention and Owner gave thanks for another day of life, life with dogs and the "dog people" he has met. Not much work was done today.

Observation: Adult canine tooth on Mack's right side is in, but the puppy canine remains - and it isn't even loose. Let's hope that changes soon - Mack would like to go to a German-style puppy match this weekend. A piece of dental rawhide was provided in the afternoon for Mack to chew on while he was in the crate but he didn't seem to do any real damage to it. Mack's coat has lots of "cowlicks" today.

"Is there some cheese up there somewhere?"

On the muddy mat after his bath.

January 16, 2004 (Sunday): Up to let Mack at out 3 a.m. and then fell back to sleep immediately. Nothing, however, can make this Owner bolt out of bed faster than those first sounds of a dog about to throw up. In this case, it was Molly, who was whisked outside before she could deposit more than a modest mess in the bedroom (probably the chicken feet, since she just doesn't do well with any kind of bone). She was left outside for a while because bringing her in would only mean flirting with disaster. Mack, awakened by the rush of his Owner out of bed, across the room, and through the house, unfortunately thought it was time to wake up, so it was much harder to get some shut eye (necessary the "day after" Co-op work) with him on the prowl. Interestingly, when he was let out of the bedroom he immediately did a sort of perimeter search inside the house - to the kitchen (no food), to the couch (hop on top of sleeping Benjamin), to the spare bedroom (hop on top of sleeping Adam) - before being brought back to the main bedroom.

Mack's formerly loose canine tooth - which was there last night - is gone today. It would have made a neat little souvenir but it disappeared, probably ingested, and not of enough value to "search for" now that it's gone. On second inspection, it was obvious that both (lower) canines were gone.

Dog maintenance day: clean crates, bathe dogs (futile attempt to make them cleaner, since they rolled in dirt right after, then tromped through the mud), mop floors around crates, etc.

Today it is hard to resist giving Mack some of the different foods from the Co-op - but adding in more than one new food (protein) at a time can be a mistake, so it's back to ground whole chicken for breakfast until we see how he did with the pork chops from yesterday evening.

Today is also one of those days when an Owner realizes dogs take a lot of work (see above). Once the laundry was started and sheets were changed, however, the thought of sleeping on a clean bed (the dogs managed to get the bed "gritty" in only a matter of days lulled Mack's Owner into a sense of calm anticipation.

January 15, 2005 (Saturday): Today was distribution day at the Co-op. Always a lot of hard work but the kind of thing that can make you feel good about what you're doing for your dog(s). Anyone who works a day at the cold storage facility can come away with a healthy respect for the people that put in countless hours to make sure BARFoods are available at reasonable prices for raw feeders.

During the day, Mack was watched by the cousins and checked in on by Brian; the kids managed a supervised walk with the dogs, switching off halfway so each had fair time with each dog.

Mack was very excited when his Owner returned home - but perhaps it was because he could smell the 300+ lbs. of food being unloaded from the car - and because he knew there wouldn't be room for all of it in the freezer or refrigerator. Mack's treat: the bloody ice from the beef liver box. Sticky, bloody, nasty ice - he loved it all. Weight: 45.6 lbs.

Food: breakfast/lunch: ground (whole) chicken + supplements; chicken feet; distressed pork chops.

Observations: One of Mack's lower canine's is very loose (as of a.m., not loose enough to take out though). The adult canine didn't erupt underneath it, but moreso to the inside of it.

January 14, 2005 (Friday): Another court day for Owner, so now quality time with the dogs until the afternoon. In the afternoon, the Kaplowitz cousins were picked up for the weekend - so that gives the dogs more people to pester (or love, depending how you look at it or how fast a dog might by flying at you as you relax on the couch).

Food:  Ground (whole) chicken + supplements; ground beef; pork neck bone for recreation; chicken feet for snacks.

Seems a little cold out here ... can I come back inside the house?

January 13, 2005 (Thursday): A little cool but it isn't raining, so that's a plus. Mack enjoyed some time on the bed this morning then decided to spend a couple of hours tormenting Molly. Saturday is the Co-op's distribution day; Owner doesn't know where he's going to put the 300+ lbs. of food ordered (got a little carried away!).

January 12, 2005 (Wednesday): Today was supposed to be a court day, but when the date was canceled (3rd time), Owner decided to try to get a few hours away; unfortunately, the person who was to come in to take care of Mack and Molly couldn't get in, so Owner had to return early, although early was still far too long for the dogs' comfort. They were very glad to be let out (although Molly still wouldn't pee) and, afterwards, Mack was just plain gleeful. Every now and then some time away is a good thing; this is one happy dog this afternoon, just bouncing around inside and outside and having a good time. The stick he brought inside (with his muddy paws) was changed out for a puppy biscuit, but not without a "plaatz" command first. Mack sat for a moment, realized that wasn't it, then plaatzed nicely.

Food; Ground  (whole) chicken + supplements.

January 11, 2005 (Tuesday): The rain stopped! Yay! There are still lots of puddles about and some very squishy walking, but at least the dogs can go outside to eliminate without it being such a big issue (found a puddle in the garage that doesn't look like it's from a roof leak). Dogs were up with Owner at 7, fed and out. Mack was crated until Owner returned from DMV, then he and Molly had a nice walk down the street and back, touring the storm damage.  Got a steal at PetSmart; they matched their website price for an in store purchase. In the late afternoon, they burned off energy running back and forth - and were collapsed napping (after dinner) by 6 p.m.  Weight: 43 lbs.

Food: Ground  (whole) chicken.

Observations: Mack's topline seems to be getting a little bit better, although he's still a bit high toward the rear. He's toed out on rear paws. Getting wider overall. Looks more like a little dog than a pup.

I wasn't doing anything bad.

When do we get to go out again?

January 10 (Monday): Rain, rain, rain and more rain. Oh, and in case anyone wants to know, it is raining! Mack was put out at 7 and really, really did not want to be out there. He peed 1 foot from the door, standing in the rain. He liked the part where he was dried off but he tried to eat the towel. He has "butcher shop breath." The rescue spent time in the crate, since she's so fussy about where she pees and because last night she decided to pee and poop in the house, making a real mess. One of the puddles could have been Mack's but, if so, it was because Molly started the frenzy.

Today, even though having been out a couple of times, Mack decided at about 2 p.m. to boldly pee on the carpet while his Owner was on the phone with a client. He got a loud "NO!" and a push with a foot at his rear, then it was out the door for the little monster. Damn this rain! It's too wet to go get a bottle of Nature's Miracle!

Food: ground mix, mostly beef heart w/some chicken + supplements.

Observations: It's not that the bite actually corrects, it's that the adult teeth come in and, since they're larger, fill the gap. Incisors look good, canines are lagging (still baby teeth for the canines); rear molars are coming in - and look like great little grinders.

January 9, 2004 (Sunday): Rain, rain and more rain. Dogs up, fed and out in the rain by 7. Mack was peed in the back yard but wouldn't do more. Molly (Ms. Rescue) wanted no part of being outside. After feeding, Mack and Molly were put on the side run, where Mack pooped. A few minutes later,  he was scratching at the door, but each time the door was opened, he wouldn't go out. After about five times of that exercise, he went out and pooped some more. Good boy! Weight: 42 lbs.

Afternoon: rain. Evening: rain. Nighttime: rain. Sheesh.

Food: Ground  (whole) chicken, beef heart, supplements; chicken feet and pork neck bone for snacks/rec.

January 8, 2004 (Saturday): Raining again - or still. Ugh. Mack and Molly slept on the bed last night and, surprisingly, didn't roll around much. Took Mack out at 3 am for a potty break. Up at 7, fed, but he didn't want to go out again. Thankfully, there were breaks in the rain today and, at 7 p.m., both dogs could actually be walked. Working on "plaatz" again with Mack.

Food: ground mix (whole chicken, beef heart) + supplements for meals; chicken feet/pork neck for snacks. Mack took his pork neck outside, got it totally muddy, then tried to bring it back in the house at 10 p.m.

Observations: Coat is getting wavier; teeth are coming in nicely - but the puppy canines seem like they're lagging in the program. Mack's breath always smells like pork!

Look at us! We're drooly, muddy and snarly - a complete package!

January 7 (Friday): Rain, rain and more rain. A busy morning doing trial prep but there was opportunity to put four chickens through the new grinder so Mack could re-up his  bone content. Mack did not want to go out in the rain but after being forced outside turned out to be a trooper. Later in the day, after the trial docs were filed, there was a break in the rain (and even a huge rainbow), so it was time for the first walk in days. Mack, formerly known as "rainbow man," was grateful to get out, although the flooding/puddles were so deep that he soaked his belly was he walked through them. Guess that happens when you're still sort of low to the ground. Mack seemed very happy with the walk and the attention he got afterward (being dried off, paws dried, etc.). Weight: 41.8 lbs. (a.m.).

In the evening, when friends came by, Mack executed the "plaatz" and "giblout" commands nicely.

Food: ground chicken + supplements; chicken foot and pork neck bone for snack.

Observations: Wavy coat!!

Watching the fire (Mack skedaddled after he got close).

January 6 (Thursday): Luckily, no rain today. The ground/bricks still had puddles of water but, by mid afternoon, the worst of it dissipated. Mack was a good snuggler this morning - until he really got going - and then it was nonstop play with the rescue, the two of them getting into whatever mischief was possible. Mack was given half of a chicken for breakfast and ate all of it but the back, which was stolen from him in the afternoon by the rescue. The Northern Tool grinder arrived today - so now it shouldn't be a problem to get some of the frozen chickens ground up or to process the beef heart in with it. Mack didn't get a lot of attention today because Owner is in trial prep.; by the time Owner could take a break (2:30), Mack was asleep.

Elaine (a neighbor) stopped by to drop off some frozen hamburgers for Mack. They didn't want them and when she asked her husband to throw them out, he said, "Bring them over to Jeremy and his carnivores." Apparently, there's a reputation now.

Mack had diarrhea in the afternoon, so he was given some pumpkin. He's been heavier on meat than bone lately, but since he had the chicken this morning, maybe things will correct by tomorrow.  Weight: 40.8 lbs.

At 10 p.m., the fireplace was turned on; it was interesting watching Mack and Molly each "nose" up to the fire - then back away. It downright scared Molly.

Food: breakfast: half chicken; snack: chicken foot; late lunch: beef heart; dinner: ground chicken + supplements.

January 5 (Wednesday): Up early with the monsters. Still very wet outside, although not raining in the morning. That provided a chance to pick up the piles and get things in some semblance of order. Mack was very snuggly while Owner was working on line today; the rest of the time, he tormented Molly. He seemed to favor his left front leg/paw - which could mean he had it stepped on or something happened when he was outside or playing rough with Molly. It will be watched and Mack will be "off of walks" to ensure that there's no strain/that he rests it. No visible swelling; looks/feels the same as the right leg. Someone peed in the house/on the carpet today while Brian was supposed to be supervising - but we don't know which dog. It was after they were being particularly rambunctious.

At dinner time, Mack was made to "earn" his food through a little bit of training. Basic reinforcement stuff - that Owner should have been doing every day - but life in the fast lane gets hectic, you know.

Food: Breakfast: beef heart. No snacks during the day, other than some biscuits. Beef heart for dinner.

January 4 (Tuesday): Mack must've brought this rain from Oregon - because this is far more than we've had here in ages. Last night was put to rest with Owner trying in vain to clean the floor, carpet, etc. after Mack had pooped all over the place - he must've been sick - because he scratched at the door and, before Owner could get to him, there were piles of wet poop everywhere. A crappy end to a crappy day. Ah well, maybe it was the beef heart. (Oh, and wouldn't you know it, the bottle of Nature's Miracle was down to the last few drops.)

Today started well enough, except for the rain. Mack wanted to go in and out many times today and Owner had to wipe his muddy paws repeatedly. At one point, he smelled "funky," and, sure enough, it meant he had tromped through poop somewhere, even though it gets picked up daily (or more often) from the yard. Damn the rain! In the afternoon, Molly (Ms. Rescue) got out of her crate and puked all over the carpet. Her stomach doesn't tolerate the bone bits the way Mack's does, but she can't stand to be left out when it comes to treats. Weight: 40.2 lbs.

Food: Ground chicken + gizzards/supplements for breakfast; same for lunch.

"I wasn't doing anything, I swear it!"

January 3 (Monday): A court day (well, morning at least) for Owner; this means Mack had to get up early, get fed, a little bit of "free" time and then crated. Poor thing.

A rainy day meant another day of wiping muddy paws, more towels in the laundry, etc. The dogs HATE going out in the rain, although Mack is better about it than Molly (Ms. Rescue). Had a couple of different clients stop by - Mack tried to jump up onto each one; that's behavior that will have to be trained away. In the past, he was small and it wasn't noticeable but, now that he's getting bigger, it's time to get him used to staying seated or "behind the line" when the door opens. Mack is doing better about "asking" to go out - at least when he's near the door. Weight: 40 lbs. No, the picture isn't too big - it's what you came here for anyway, right? Hah hah!

"He has food in here somewhere. Stick with me little one - and we'll find it!"

Food: Breakfast: ground chicken + supplements; snack: chicken foot, pork neck bone; lunch: beef heart; dinner: ground chicken

January 2 (Sunday): Dogs were up early but breakfast was delayed - given the thought of morning training and wanting to keep the dogs "a little hungry" so they remain motivated (otherwise they eat and nap). They're due for baths but with the weather that plan is getting delayed, too. This was the first day in a few that it was "dry" enough to take them for a walk.  Worked on a little bit of heeling; Mack acted like the "fun" went out of walking when he was commanded but was very happy to receive a treat when the walk was completed. Weight: 39.2 (after lunch); 38.4 (after dinner, possible scale error?)

Food: breakfast: ground chicken + supplements; chicken foot for snack; lunch: eggs, cottage cheese, supplements + garlic; dinner: beef heart.n

Observations: Slight overbite; wavy coat on top; growing fast! Mack ate the chicken foot with no problem but doesn't seem interested in the bone portion of the pork neck bone.

"Who says I can't still do puppy eyes?" Damn, I'm adorable!

"I know there is food somewhere out here, I smell it!"

January 1, 2005 (Saturday): It was a late morning since there was no work. Very nice to "sleep in" with the dogs, although they couldn't understand why they weren't being fed and walked per their normal routine. Still very wet here but what's a little mud and more laundry to do? Mack and Ms. Rescue each got a new toy today - in an effort to start the year right. Dogs were crated so Owner could go see "The Aviator," but who knew it was 3 hours? Weight: 38 lbs.

Observations: Mack is starting to look more filled-out. He hasn't been eating the bone portion of the pork neck bones lately.

Food: Ground chicken + supplements for breakfast; pork neck bone for snack/recreation; Mackeral (bonito) and chicken after the movies.
